Niron Magnetics Strengthens Local Ties by Joining Sartell Chamber of Commerce Ahead of New Facility

Feb 24, 2026

MINNEAPOLIS, and SARTELL, MN (February 24, 2026) Niron Magnetics, the leading manufacturer of high-performance, rare-earth-free Iron Nitride permanent magnets, today announced new community engagement plans as it prepares to open its first commercial-scale manufacturing facility in Sartell, Minnesota.

Building on its recent scholarship announcement for the Sartell community, Niron Magnetics’ decision to join the Sartell Chamber of Commerce reflects its commitment to becoming an active, long-term participant in the local business community while supporting workforce development and regional economic growth.

"Niron Magnetics is committed to building strong relationships across the Central Minnesota region,” said Jonathan Rowntree, CEO of Niron Magnetics. "Connecting with residents, local organizations, and businesses as we prepare to open our doors will be key as we look to create new opportunities for the region. We’re grateful to the Chamber for building meaningful relationships."

With a plan to hire approximately 175 full-time roles in the first year, the manufacturing facility will require workers across multiple skill levels, from technicians and engineers to operations and administrative staff. The Sartell area offers access to technical programs at St. Cloud State University and St. Cloud Technical & Community College, as well as a manufacturing workforce experienced in the region's granite and precision manufacturing industries.

“Sartell actively recruits and welcomes organizations that invest in our people, our economy, and our future,” said Mayor Ryan Fitzthum. “Niron Magnetics choosing Sartell for its first commercial-scale Iron Nitride permanent magnet facility, and joining the Chamber before operations even begin, signals a genuine, long-term commitment to our community.”

Niron Magnetics’ Iron Nitride permanent magnets are produced without rare earth elements, using iron and nitrogen that are readily available in the U.S. These magnets are critical components in vehicle motors, defense systems, consumer electronics, and other technologies that increasingly depend on a reliable domestic supply. By manufacturing these materials in the U.S., Niron Magnetics is helping bring advanced manufacturing back home, strengthening supply chains while creating skilled, long-term jobs that support local families and the regional economy.

The Sartell facility is expected to begin production in 2027 and to produce up to 1,500 tons of magnets annually upon full operation. These magnets will look to serve customers in the U.S. and globally.
